Patna: The Bihar government has approved the Chief Minister Homestay Promotion Scheme, aimed at promoting tourism and generating employment by encouraging homeowners to convert their existing houses into homestays.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries can receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2.50 lakh per room for developing homestay facilities. A maximum of eight rooms can be registered under a single homestay, allowing operators to access substantial government support.
Financial Assistance of Up to Rs 11 Lakh
According to the scheme, beneficiaries from the general category can receive financial assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh.
Women, self-help groups (SHGs), and young applicants between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible for an additional incentive of Rs 25,000, taking the total assistance to up to Rs 11 lakh.
The scheme is designed to help homeowners upgrade existing residential properties into tourist accommodation while creating new income opportunities.
Focus on Rural Tourism and Employment
The Bihar government aims to develop 1,000 homestay rooms over the next five years under the programme.
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen rural tourism by encouraging visitors to stay in local communities while creating employment and self-employment opportunities across the state.
Who Can Apply?
Applications can be submitted online through the Tourism Department’s official portal.
Applicants must provide documents related to their land and residential property, along with Aadhaar, PAN and bank account details during the application process.
Government employees and contractual workers are not eligible to apply for the scheme. All other eligible homeowners can register, subject to the scheme’s guidelines.
