Patna: National Electrical Safety Week–2026 commenced on Monday in Patna with a renewed focus on preventing fire accidents caused by electrical short circuits and promoting safe electricity usage across the state.
The campaign, themed “Today’s Awareness, Tomorrow’s Prevention – Let Us All Unite to Prevent Fire Hazards from Electrical Short Circuit,” will run for a week with awareness programmes and technical sessions across departments.
Inaugural Programme at Vidyut Bhawan
The inaugural event was organised by Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) at the auditorium of Vidyut Bhawan-III in Patna. The programme was inaugurated by Energy Secretary and BSPHCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Ajay Yadav.
In his address, Yadav said Bihar’s power sector has expanded significantly, now serving around 22 million consumers with peak demand crossing 9,000 MW. He said operating such a large network requires strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at every level.
He emphasised mandatory safety practices, including proper shutdown procedures, isolation, insulation, earthing and compulsory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). He stressed that safety should not be compromised under any circumstances.
Emphasis on Safety Compliance
Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL), Rahul Kumar, said adherence to SOPs and PPE usage are core responsibilities of all employees in the power sector.
BSP Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL) Managing Director Nawal Kishore Chaudhary said safety must remain the first priority before any field operation and highlighted the need for vigilance and standard procedures to prevent accidents.
South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) Managing Director Saurabh Jorwal noted that electrical safety is also a public responsibility and urged citizens to spread awareness within their communities.
Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) Managing Director Vishal Raj said the state’s power sector has made technological progress, but sustained success depends on strict safety compliance.
