Patna: The Bihar government has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan to minimise disruption during the construction of the underground section of the Patna Metro Rail Project along Bailey Road.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra on July 2 to review measures aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring the smooth movement of vehicles across Patna.
Focus On Bailey Road During Metro Construction
The meeting reviewed the likely impact of the proposed underground metro tunnel between Vidyut Bhawan and Rukanpura on traffic movement along Bailey Road.
Officials from various departments and public representatives discussed measures to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow and reduce inconvenience to commuters during the construction period.
“We will not allow traffic disruptions on Bailey Road,” Mishra said, directing officials to prioritise public convenience while implementing the metro project.
DMRC Asked to Submit Action Plan
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the executing agency for the Patna Metro Rail Project, has been instructed to coordinate with the concerned departments, conduct a detailed survey and submit a comprehensive traffic management plan within 15 days.
The proposed plan is expected to include alternative traffic arrangements, coordination mechanisms and measures to maintain safe and efficient vehicle movement during construction.
Government Calls For Better Inter-Departmental Coordination
Mishra directed officials to ensure close coordination among all departments involved in the project, stating that metro construction and traffic management must proceed simultaneously without causing avoidable disruption to the public.
He emphasised that effective planning and timely implementation would be essential to maintaining normal traffic operations throughout the construction phase.

Senior Officials Attend Review Meeting
The meeting was attended by MLAs Shyam Rajak, Ratnesh Kumar, Sanjeev Chaurasia and Sanjay Kumar, along with Urban Development and Housing Department Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Patna Municipal Corporation, senior officials from the Transport Department, Road Construction Department, Urban Development and Housing Department, the Inspector General of Police, and representatives of other concerned departments also participated in the review meeting.
