Patna: Although the southwest monsoon has reached Bihar, widespread rainfall continues to remain elusive, leaving residents grappling with hot and humid weather across the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are expected to remain largely normal across all districts on Saturday. A few areas may witness a mix of sunshine and cloud cover, but no significant rainfall is likely until at least July 5.
The absence of rain is expected to intensify discomfort, with maximum temperatures in Patna and several other districts hovering around 38 degrees Celsius or even exceeding that mark. The IMD has also forecast a rise of 1–2 degrees Celsius in daytime temperatures, making afternoon conditions even more oppressive.
Why Has the Monsoon Slowed Down?
Meteorologists said the monsoon has not become fully active over Bihar due to a weak monsoon circulation and inadequate moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal.
At present, there is no strong low-pressure system or active trough line favouring rainfall over the state. As a result, the monsoon’s progress has slowed, delaying widespread precipitation across most districts.
Bihar Records 50% Rainfall Deficit
The state’s rainfall remains significantly below normal this monsoon season.
According to IMD data, Bihar should have received around 196.1 mm of rainfall by this stage of the season. However, only 98.4 mm has been recorded so far, resulting in a rainfall deficit of nearly 50%.
The prolonged dry spell has raised concerns over agriculture and water availability if rainfall does not improve in the coming days.
Patna Weather Forecast
Patna is expected to experience partly cloudy skies on Saturday, but the likelihood of rainfall remains minimal.
Residents are likely to face intense sunshine combined with high humidity during the day. A slight increase in maximum temperatures is also expected, keeping heat stress levels elevated.
No Major Weather Change Expected Soon
Weather scientists have indicated that no significant change in weather conditions is likely over the next one to two days. Most parts of Bihar are expected to remain dry, with temperatures showing a marginal increase.
However, meteorologists are closely monitoring monsoon developments over the Bay of Bengal. If a strong weather system forms over the region, rainfall activity across Bihar could increase in the days ahead.
