Patna: Bihar government has announced that a prominent park or road in every district headquarters across the state will be constructed or renamed after Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, in a move aimed at commemorating the former Union minister’s contribution to nation-building.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the decision on X, stating that the initiative is intended to preserve Mukherjee’s legacy and familiarise younger generations with his role in India’s political and national development.
Government Announces Statewide Initiative
According to the government, district administrations will identify a suitable park or road in each district headquarters based on local requirements and the availability of land.
Where necessary, new parks or roads will be developed. In other cases, existing public spaces of significance will be renamed after Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
The government said the process of issuing guidelines to the concerned departments has already begun.
Focus on Public Awareness
The state government said the initiative seeks to increase public awareness of Mukherjee’s contributions by associating his name with public spaces that are used daily by residents.
Officials said parks and roads offer a visible and accessible way for people, particularly younger generations, to learn about historical figures who contributed to the country’s development and unity.
Government Cites Contribution to National Unity
The government described Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee as a leader who played an important role in strengthening India’s unity and integrity. It said his political decisions and public movements had a lasting impact on the country’s democratic and political landscape.
According to the government, the decision reflects its commitment to recognising personalities who dedicated themselves to national service and worked towards preserving the country’s unity.
Implementation to Begin in Districts
The state government said district administrations and local bodies will complete the formalities required for the construction or renaming of parks and roads.
Work under the scheme is expected to begin across multiple districts in the coming months. The government said the initiative will both commemorate Mukherjee’s legacy and contribute to the development of public spaces across Bihar.
