Purnia/Patna: Purnia MP Pappu Yadav has urged the Union government to expedite the construction of a proposed six-lane expressway and a railway overbridge (ROB) in the Seemanchal region, stating that both projects have remained pending for years despite receiving approval.
Yadav met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and submitted a memorandum seeking early implementation of the projects, which he said are critical for improving regional connectivity and supporting economic development.
Expressway Proposal Covers Multiple Districts
According to Yadav, the proposed expressway will connect NH-107 (now renumbered as NH-231) from Parasma in Supaul to Banmankhi via Tarave Chowk, Singheshwar, Kevatgama Chowk, Khurda and Chakmaka in Madhepura.
He also requested that work be expedited on the approved extension of the proposed six-lane expressway to Bahadurganj through Katihar, Pranpur, Dagarua and Baisi.
Project Expected To Improve Regional Connectivity
Yadav said the proposed corridor would connect with the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, improving road links between Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
According to the MP, the project would benefit residents of Purnia, Madhepura, Supaul, Banmankhi and other parts of Seemanchal by reducing travel time and improving access to healthcare, education, industry and agricultural markets.
He said the proposed expressway is approximately 177 km long, has an estimated project cost of around Rs 1,400 crore and has remained pending for nearly 25 years.
MP Also Raises Railway Overbridge Issue
Yadav also sought the early construction of a railway overbridge in the region, stating that the project has received approval but work has yet to begin.
He said the absence of the overbridge continues to cause traffic congestion and raises the risk of road accidents at the railway crossing.

Memorandum Submitted To Union Minister
Following the meeting, Yadav shared photographs on social media and said he was hopeful that the Union government would take action on the demands.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has not yet issued an official statement on the memorandum or the proposed timeline for the projects.
