Patna: Patna University’s convocation ceremony was disrupted on Saturday after students demanded that they be called onto the stage to receive their degrees, leading Governor-cum-Chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain to leave the venue without delivering his address.
The ceremony was held at the Mother Veronica Auditorium of Patna Women’s College. Degrees were presented on stage only to gold medal recipients and PhD degree holders.
A total of 1,305 students received their degrees, including 155 PhD scholars.
38 Students Receive Gold Medals
Gold medals were awarded to 38 toppers from the postgraduate session 2023-25. The recipients included 28 female students and 10 male students.

Poonam Tandon Delivers Convocation Address
Governor-cum-Chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain attended the ceremony as the chief guest. However, amid the commotion over students’ demand to receive degrees on stage, he left the event before delivering his scheduled address.
Prof Poonam Tandon, Vice-Chancellor of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University, Gorakhpur, addressed the graduating students and delivered the convocation speech as the guest of honour.
The ceremony concluded with degrees being conferred on the graduating students, while the gold medal and PhD recipients were called to the stage for the presentation.
