Patna: The Bihar government has approved the development of a yoga, spiritual and tourism centre in Ghazipur village of Tarapur block in Munger district, with 15.01 acres of government land set to be leased to the Isha Foundation for 99 years.
According to the state Tourism Department, the land will be leased at a token rent of Rs 1 per year. The proposed project will include a grand Adiyogi statue, an international-standard yoga centre and facilities for cultural, spiritual and tourism activities.
What Is Planned At The Tarapur Centre?
The project will feature a large Adiyogi Mahadev statue along with facilities for yoga, meditation and spiritual programmes.
The proposed centre will also include tourism and cultural infrastructure aimed at attracting visitors interested in yoga, wellness and spiritual activities.
The government expects the development to add a new destination to Bihar’s growing tourism network.
Why Tarapur Was Chosen
Tarapur has historical and religious significance and is associated with the ancient Anga region. The area also lies along routes connected with the Shiv Paripath and Kanwariya pilgrimage circuit.
The region receives pilgrims during religious occasions, while its proximity to established pilgrimage routes is expected to support the proposed spiritual tourism project.
Isha Foundation To Develop The Project
The Isha Foundation, headquartered near the Velliangiri Mountains in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, will develop the facilities on the leased government land.
The 99-year lease provides the foundation with a long-term tenure for developing and operating the proposed centre. Details of the project’s construction timeline and individual facilities will depend on subsequent implementation.
Focus On Yoga And Spiritual Tourism
The Tourism Department said the project is intended to position Tarapur as a destination for yoga, meditation, wellness and spiritual tourism.
The government expects the centre to attract visitors from Bihar and other parts of India, while also creating the potential for international visitors interested in yoga and spiritual practices.
Connectivity And Local Economy
The proposed development is also expected to be supported by improved connectivity, including access through the Deoghar route.
According to the Tourism Department, the project could create employment opportunities for local residents and support businesses linked to tourism, hospitality and visitor services.
The department said the initiative is part of Bihar’s broader effort to combine its religious and cultural heritage with modern tourism infrastructure.
