Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called on Bihar DGP Alok Raj to expedite the ongoing police recruitment process ahead of the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a police department event held at Bapu Auditorium, where appointment letters were distributed to newly appointed sub-inspectors, Kumar made a direct appeal to the DGP, asking that the recruitment be completed within six months. He also stressed the importance of increasing women’s representation in the police force to 35%.
During his address, the Chief Minister urged both the DGP and the Home Secretary to ensure swift appointments, asking pointedly, “Why don’t you hurry up? Come here and tell me whether you will hurry up or not.” The Home Secretary responded, assuring that Bihar Police would fully commit to completing the tasks laid out by the Chief Minister, including the advanced training and posting of new recruits.
This is not the first time Nitish Kumar has made such direct appeals. In July, he attempted to touch the feet of a project manager overseeing the JP Ganga Path project, urging him to expedite the construction of the six-lane highway. The incident was halted by Pratyaya Amrit, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department, who reassured Kumar that the project was progressing swiftly.
The Chief Minister’s urgency reflects a broader effort to fulfill promises made to the public ahead of next year’s assembly elections. Kumar’s actions signal his determination to see major initiatives, such as police recruitment, completed before the election season.
Kumar has been known for making bold gestures. In June, during a meeting of the NDA in Delhi, he touched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s feet after a speech. Similarly, in Nalanda, he was seen holding the Prime Minister’s hand and engaging in conversation, which led to an amusing reaction from the SPG personnel present.
Additionally, the Chief Minister’s lighthearted nature came to the fore during an event in June when he playfully bumped heads with Minister Ashok Chaudhary and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha while laughing—a spontaneous moment that surprised many in attendance.
As the election year draws closer, Nitish Kumar remains focused on completing key promises, underscoring his commitment to delivering on pledges made to the people of Bihar.
