Patna: Aspirants seeking recruitment through the BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) have announced an indefinite hunger strike in Patna from August 18, escalating their protest over the delay in issuing the recruitment notification.
The protesters are demanding the immediate release of the TRE-4 advertisement, clarity on the number of vacancies and a recruitment schedule. They have also called for the resignation of Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari.
Why Are Aspirants Protesting?
The candidates, led by student leader Dilip, have alleged that the delay in starting the fourth phase of teacher recruitment is affecting thousands of job aspirants.
According to the protesters, they have been waiting for the recruitment process to begin and want the government to disclose the number of vacant teaching posts before issuing the notification.
The candidates have also questioned reports of around 46,000 vacancies, seeking clarity on whether that figure will form part of the TRE-4 recruitment.
Education Department Had Set July 25 Deadline
The Education Department had earlier indicated that the recruitment process would be moved forward.
During a review meeting on July 7, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari directed officials to send the recruitment requisition to the BPSC by July 25, according to the protesters’ account.
However, aspirants say the TRE-4 notification has not yet been issued and are demanding an explanation for the delay.
Protesters Had Demonstrated In May
The latest announcement follows a large protest in Patna in May 2026 over the same issue.
That demonstration also drew controversy after police action against protesters. Despite the earlier agitation, candidates have continued to demand the start of the recruitment process.

The protesters have listed several demands, including:
