Patna: The NSS Unit of Patna Women’s College organised an Orientation-cum-Oath Taking Ceremony for newly enrolled NSS volunteers at Carmel Hall on Thursday.
The programme introduced volunteers to the objectives, values and responsibilities of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and encouraged them to participate actively in community service and social awareness initiatives.
Ceremony Begins With Lamp Lighting
The programme began with the arrival of chief guest Alok Kumar Singh, Assistant Director (Youth), Bihar State AIDS Control Society (BSACS), along with the NSS Programme Officers.
Singh and the Programme Officers formally inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The NSS Lakshya Geet was subsequently presented, setting the tone for the programme.
Volunteers Introduced To NSS Responsibilities
Dr Brahma Nand, Department of Hindi and NSS Programme Officer, delivered the welcome address and welcomed the chief guest and participants.
Dr Jyoti Chandra, Department of Chemistry and NSS Programme Officer, felicitated Singh during the programme.
Addressing the volunteers, Singh spoke about the role of NSS in encouraging youth participation and social responsibility. He emphasised discipline, community service and the importance of sustained involvement in activities benefiting society.
New Volunteers Take NSS Oath
The oath-taking ceremony was the central part of the programme.
The newly enrolled volunteers took the NSS oath, pledging to uphold the values of service, responsibility, discipline and commitment towards the welfare of society.
The ceremony formally marked the beginning of their tenure as NSS volunteers and their participation in community-oriented activities.

Programme Concludes With National Anthem
Dr Jyoti Chandra delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, volunteers and others involved in organising the programme.
The event concluded with the National Anthem.
The college said the programme encouraged the new volunteers to follow the NSS motto, “Not Me But You”, and contribute to community service, social awareness and nation-building activities.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Jyoti Chandra and Dr Brahma Nand, NSS Programme Officers at Patna Women’s College.
