Patna : The Bihar Transport Department and Bihar Road Safety Council have trained 488 government drivers in safe driving practices as part of a three-day road safety programme being held at the state headquarters.
The training is aimed at improving awareness of traffic rules, responsible driving practices and measures to prevent road accidents. The programme is being conducted at the conference hall on the sixth floor of Visvesvaraya Bhavan in Patna.
Government And Non-Government Drivers Included
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said safe driving training programmes are being organised across all districts for both government and non-government drivers.
At the Patna headquarters, drivers from various government departments are being trained over two days, while a separate training session for non-government drivers is scheduled for Friday.
Focus On Traffic Rules And Road Signs
During the sessions, drivers were briefed on traffic signals, road markings and different categories of road signs.
The training covered warning, mandatory and informative signs, along with the importance of following traffic signals and road markings.
Drivers were also advised that compliance with traffic rules is essential not only to meet legal requirements but also to protect motorists, passengers and other road users.
What Causes Road Accidents?
The training sessions also examined common factors associated with road accidents.
Officials highlighted overspeeding, reckless driving, mobile phone use while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to wear seat belts and violation of traffic rules among the key risks.
Drivers were advised to remain particularly cautious at turns, intersections and other locations where road conditions can change quickly.
Drivers Advised To Maintain Safe Distance
Participants were advised to maintain appropriate speeds and keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead.
They were also instructed to follow lane discipline, avoid mobile phone use while driving and exercise additional caution at intersections and turns.
Good Samaritans Also Discussed
The programme also included information on Good Samaritans, referring to people who assist road accident victims.
Drivers were made aware of the importance of helping accident victims and the role that timely assistance can play after a road crash.
The Transport Department said the wider training programme across Bihar is intended to strengthen road safety awareness among professional drivers and contribute to reducing accidents across the state.
