Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has targeted the NDA government led by Samrat Choudhary over Bihar’s financial condition, alleging that the state is facing a severe fiscal crisis despite a sharp rise in public debt.
In a statement posted on X, Yadav alleged that the government lacks sufficient funds to make timely payments to employees, pensioners, social security beneficiaries and contractors, while development projects are also facing financial constraints.

He questioned the government’s financial priorities and asked why the state treasury remains under pressure despite Bihar taking on substantial debt.
Tejashwi Questions Rising Debt And Fiscal Deficit
Yadav alleged that Bihar’s total public debt has increased more than fourfold and claimed that the state’s revenue deficit is also widening.
He said the combination of rising debt, a high fiscal deficit and inadequate revenue receipts was a matter of serious concern for Bihar.
According to Yadav, Bihar recorded a fiscal deficit of 5.8% of its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in 2025-26, which he described as the highest among major Indian states.
Attack On Government’s Financial Management
Yadav questioned the government’s approach to expenditure and debt management, alleging that it had failed to adequately control the fiscal deficit or strengthen the state’s revenue base.
He also accused the NDA government of lacking a long-term strategy to increase revenue collection, manage expenditure and improve Bihar’s fiscal position.
The allegations could not be independently verified from the material provided.
Student Credit Card Scheme Also Questioned
Yadav also raised concerns over the Bihar Student Credit Card scheme, alleging that education loan limits had been reduced and scholarships were being discontinued.
He linked the alleged changes to the state’s financial condition and questioned whether fiscal constraints were affecting support for students.
‘Where Is Bihar’s Money Going?’
Yadav also criticised the NDA government, calling it an “incompetent and useless double-engine government” and alleging corruption and organised financial irregularities.
He questioned why the state treasury remained strained despite what he described as record borrowing by the government over the past two years.
“Where is all of Bihar’s money actually going?” Yadav asked in his statement.
The government’s response to the allegations was not included in the material provided.
