Patna: The drinking water network in Danapur and its surrounding residential areas is set to receive a major upgrade after the Danapur Water Supply Scheme was approved under the Central government’s AMRUT 2.0 programme.
The Rs 93.56 crore project will be implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) and is expected to provide clean piped water to more than 5,877 households.
The project is scheduled to be completed within one year. The tender for the work has already been issued, while the agency implementing the scheme will also be responsible for its operation and maintenance for five years after completion.
63 Km Pipeline Network
Under the project, a 63-km pipeline network comprising rising mains and distribution lines will be laid across the Danapur Municipal Council area and adjoining localities.
The network will connect densely populated as well as newly developed areas to the piped water system. Provisions will also be made to extend household connections to areas that currently lack piped water facilities.
Overhead water storage tanks with a combined capacity of 2,526 kilolitres will be constructed to store water and maintain uniform pressure across the network, including at locations farther from the main supply points.
The scheme also includes renovation of existing pumping stations and water bodies.
135 Litres Per Person Per Day
The project has set a target of supplying 135 litres of water per person per day. Household tap connections will allow residents to receive water directly at their homes and reduce dependence on handpumps and groundwater sources.
A modern water treatment system is also planned to ensure that the supplied water is filtered and meets the required quality standards.
The project is expected to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases associated with contaminated water sources by improving access to treated piped water.
Water Meters To Help Reduce Wastage
Water meters and control valves will be installed as part of the project. The meters will help monitor consumption, while control valves will regulate water flow according to demand.
The measures are intended to reduce water wastage and support more equitable distribution among households.
Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen Danapur’s drinking water infrastructure and provide a more reliable piped water supply to residents under the AMRUT 2.0 programme.
