Buxar-Dumraon Road Becomes a ‘Lake’ After Rain, Residents Ask: When Will Repairs Begin?

Buxar: An 18-kilometre stretch connecting Buxar district headquarters with Dumraon subdivision has once again come under scrutiny after heavy rain left several sections submerged in knee-deep water. Potholes, a damaged road surface and prolonged waterlogging have made the route difficult for thousands of commuters.

The road passes through Golambar, Jaso, Nadanv, Jagdishpur, Kulharia and Basauli, connecting dozens of villages with the district headquarters. For residents, the deteriorating road has become a daily challenge, particularly during the monsoon.

Key lifeline for villages

The road is a crucial route for students, daily-wage workers, traders and salaried employees travelling between Buxar and Dumraon.

Thousands of residents depend on it to access schools, colleges, hospitals, government offices, markets and workplaces. With rainwater accumulating over damaged sections, commuters say even routine journeys have become difficult.

Parents are particularly concerned about children travelling on the route during periods of severe waterlogging.

Protest held on waterlogged road

The deteriorating condition prompted Jan Suraj district president Bajrangi Mishra and his supporters to stage a sit-in on the road near the office of Sadar BJP MLA Anand Mishra.

Mishra accused the administration of failing to address the issue despite the road being a major public concern.

“The condition of the road is such that parents remain anxious until their children reach home safely. Why does the administration only wake up after a major accident occurs?” Mishra said.

He also pointed to the large number of students who use the road every day to reach Buxar district headquarters.

100-day promise still awaits fulfilment

The road was a prominent issue during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. BJP MLA Anand Mishra had promised to get the road constructed within 100 days after his election.

However, nearly nine months later, residents continue to face the same problems, with the monsoon further exposing the road’s poor condition.

Mishra has said that the issue is primarily administrative rather than political. According to him, details regarding the road have been forwarded to the District Magistrate and efforts are underway to resolve the matter.

Joint survey completed, government approval awaited

The Rural Works Department (RWD) said the road has already been jointly surveyed by officials of the Road Construction Department and the RWD.

Ranvijay Kumar, Executive Officer of the RWD, said a detailed report had been prepared and submitted to the government.

“The Road Construction Department and the Rural Works Department have jointly surveyed the road. A full report has been submitted to the government. Work on the road will begin as soon as orders are received from the government,” Kumar said.

The department’s statement suggests that repair or reconstruction work is currently awaiting further government orders.

Road reconstructed twice in the past decade

Local residents said the road had undergone reconstruction twice during the tenure of former Sadar Congress MLA Sanjay Tiwari, popularly known as Munna Tiwari.

According to residents, the road was constructed in 2016 after Tiwari won the 2015 Assembly election. It was reportedly reconstructed again in 2021 following his victory in the 2020 election.

Residents said the latest project’s tenure ended in March 2026, but no major repair or reconstruction work has since begun despite the road’s deteriorating condition.

Two subdivisions and two Assembly constituencies affected

The 18-km route connects two subdivisions and two Assembly constituencies, making its condition significant for a large population beyond the immediate roadside settlements.

For residents, the issue is no longer simply about potholes or rainwater. It has become a question of whether repeated promises will translate into actual work on the ground.

With the road once again resembling a “lake” after rainfall, commuters are now asking a simple question: when will the promised reconstruction finally begin?
