Patna: Vehicle parking at Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna is set to become more convenient, with an app-based parking management system expected to be launched within the next two weeks.
Work has begun inside the airport premises to streamline vehicle movement at entry and exit points and improve the management of parking facilities. A new agency has been assigned responsibility for managing vehicle operations within the airport complex.
The airport administration has directed the agency to complete the new system within the stipulated timeframe.
Command and control centre being set up
An executive of the agency managing parking facilities at the airport, said work on the new system is currently underway.
A command and control room is being established to oversee parking operations and regulate vehicle movement within the premises.
One of the key changes will be the introduction of digital payment facilities for vehicles that do not have FASTag.
At present, vehicles using the manual payment system can face queues at the airport exit. Under the proposed system, cameras will electronically scan vehicle licence plates, reducing the need for manual payment processing.
Once the licence plate is scanned and the parking fee has been processed, the boom barrier at the exit will open automatically.
The system is expected to reduce waiting times and prevent traffic congestion at the exit gate.
Real-time parking availability
The parking management app will also show the real-time availability of parking spaces, including spaces in multi-level parking facilities.
Drivers will be able to check available spaces through the app and choose parking based on their convenience.
The facility is expected to save time for passengers and drivers while making parking operations more efficient.
According to the agency, similar parking management services are already being provided by the company at Mumbai Airport and other airports.
The agency is now preparing to introduce the system at Patna Airport, with the airport administration targeting its launch within a fortnight.
