Bhagalpur/Patna: The flood situation in Bhagalpur is worsening as water has started reaching major roads in the district. After NH-80, nearly two feet of floodwater has now accumulated on the Munger-Mirzachowki Greenfield four-lane road.
Water is reportedly flowing over the road at three locations, creating difficulties for motorists and raising concerns over the route’s connectivity.
Rising Ganga Raises Road Connectivity Concerns
The water level of the Ganga continues to rise, increasing the pressure on roads and low-lying areas across the district.
Officials and residents fear that if the water level continues to rise at the current pace, movement on the Greenfield four-lane road could also be completely disrupted.
The development has raised concerns over road connectivity between Bhagalpur, also known as the Silk City, and the state capital Patna.
Traffic Movement Increasingly Difficult
With floodwater flowing across parts of the four-lane route, commuters are facing increasing difficulties while travelling through the affected stretches.
The situation could become more challenging if the water level rises further, potentially forcing authorities to restrict or stop traffic on the road for safety reasons.
Questions Raised Over Road Design
The flooding has also triggered criticism from local residents over the design and construction of the under-construction four-lane road.
Residents have questioned the Detailed Project Report (DPR), road alignment and structural planning, arguing that officials were aware of areas prone to waterlogging.
According to local residents, some sections of the road have been constructed at a comparatively lower level despite the area’s known waterlogging problem, resulting in the accumulation of floodwater on the road.
Patna-Bhagalpur Road Link Faces Flood Threat
The latest development has added to concerns over road connectivity between Bhagalpur and Patna during the ongoing flood situation.
If the water level continues to increase and traffic on the Greenfield four-lane road is suspended, commuters could face significant disruption on one of the important road links connecting Bhagalpur with other parts of Bihar.
