Patna : Vehicle owners across Bihar will get an opportunity to settle long-pending traffic e-challans at the National Lok Adalat on September 12.
The initiative is being organised under the One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme-2026, through which e-challans pending for more than 90 days can be settled by paying only 50% of the total challan amount.
The National Lok Adalat will be organised at court premises across all districts of Bihar.
30 Special Counters At Gandhi Maidan
In Patna, a special arrangement has been made near Gate No. 7 of Gandhi Maidan for traffic challan-related cases.
As many as 30 special counters will operate at the venue from 10am to 5pm. Cases involving various traffic violations under the Motor Vehicles Act will be taken up for settlement.
The Transport Department had provided a pre-registration facility at DTO offices from September 7 to 11 for people wishing to avail themselves of the scheme.
How The 50% Settlement Will Work
Visitors will first have to complete registration at the designated counter. They will then be required to deposit 50% of the total challan amount.
A receipt will be issued at the counter after payment. The message confirming cancellation of the challan is expected to be sent to the registered mobile number the following day.
Which Traffic Violations Are Covered?
The settlement benefit will cover several common traffic violations, including cases related to pollution certificates, insurance, fitness certificates, driving licences and vehicle registration.
Violations such as using a mobile phone while driving, riding without a helmet, driving without a seat belt, overspeeding and jumping red lights will also be eligible for the 50% settlement benefit, subject to the scheme’s conditions.
However, overloading-related challans will remain outside the scheme.
Documents Required
People appearing for challan settlement will need to carry a copy of the challan, driving licence and Aadhaar card.
Those who have already completed pre-registration should also bring a copy of their registration document.
Authorities have arranged drinking water, cleanliness and medical facilities at the Lok Adalat premises for visitors.
The September 12 initiative is aimed at providing vehicle owners with an opportunity to clear eligible long-pending traffic challans while helping authorities reduce the backlog of such cases.
