Patna: Patna University has approved a new six-month Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management (HRM) programme for retired soldiers, opening a new academic and career pathway for eligible ex-servicemen after military service.
The decision was taken during an online Syndicate meeting held on September 13. The meeting, which was earlier planned to be held offline at the university headquarters, was shifted online amid concerns over possible disruption by students.
Six-Month HRM Course For Ex-Servicemen
The programme will be available to retired soldiers who have passed Class 12. Under the decision, the Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management will be awarded on the recommendation of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Bihar.
The degree is intended to provide retired soldiers with an additional academic qualification that they can use for career opportunities after completing their military service.
Recommendations for providing the degree to retired soldiers had also been made at the Lok Bhavan level, according to the report.
University To Conduct Exams And Award Degrees
Under the arrangement, Patna University will have the authority to conduct examinations and award the degree to eligible candidates.
Admissions for the programme will be conducted through the Samarth portal. The six-month duration is expected to provide former service personnel with a relatively short route to obtaining a formal qualification in human resource management.
The university’s existing programme listings also use the Samarth admission platform for academic programmes.
Why The Syndicate Meeting Was Held Online
The Syndicate meeting was initially scheduled to take place offline at the university headquarters. However, university authorities opted for an online meeting after information about the proposed meeting reached students and concerns were raised about possible protests.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajay Kumar Singh, along with university officials and Syndicate members, participated in the virtual meeting.
While the HRM course received approval, several other agenda items could not be discussed during the online meeting.
Other Matters To Be Taken Up Offline
The remaining issues are expected to be considered during a subsequent offline Syndicate meeting.
One of the key matters will be the approval of appointments of Assistant Professors recommended for the Environmental Science department.
The university will also consider applications submitted by teachers seeking leave without pay.
The pending matters are expected to be discussed and decided at the next offline meeting.
