Patna: Construction work at Rukanpura Metro Station is progressing rapidly, with work underway on the diaphragm wall, or D-wall, required for the underground station structure.
Large reinforcement steel cages are being lifted with heavy-duty cranes and carefully positioned at the designated locations. Engineers and technical teams are supervising the installation to ensure that the steel structures are accurately aligned and securely placed.
Why the D-Wall Is Important
The diaphragm wall will form an important part of the underground station’s structural system.
The reinforcement cages are first positioned at the designated sections before the next stages of D-wall construction begin. Once completed, the structure will help provide strength and stability to the underground station and its surrounding excavation.
Engineers are monitoring each stage to ensure the reinforcement is positioned correctly and meets the required construction standards.
5.2-Km Underground Tunnel Completed on Moin-ul-Haq–Patna Junction Stretch
Meanwhile, significant progress has also been reported on the underground section between Moin-ul-Haq Stadium Metro Station and Patna Junction Metro Station.
Around 5.2 km of up-line underground tunnelling has been completed on this stretch.
The milestone was achieved with the ninth TBM breakthrough under Package PC-03. With this breakthrough, TBM-1 completed its tunnelling work on the section.
The completed underground corridor is expected to strengthen metro connectivity through some of Patna’s key areas as construction progresses.
Four TBMs Planned From Patna Zoo Shaft
Work is also progressing near Patna Zoo, where changes are being made to the design of the proposed metro station.
According to officials, a metro shaft near the zoo is being prepared for tunnel construction, with four Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) expected to be deployed in November.
Two TBMs will move towards the east to construct the up and down tunnels towards Patna Junction.
The other two TBMs will move westwards, constructing the up and down tunnels towards Rukanpura Metro Station.
Patna Metro Underground Network Expands
The ongoing work at Rukanpura, along with tunnelling progress between Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and Patna Junction, marks another step in the expansion of Patna’s underground metro network.
With D-wall construction, TBM breakthroughs and new tunnelling fronts progressing simultaneously, work is advancing across multiple sections of the city’s metro corridor.
