Patna, September 25: Rainfall activity is expected to continue across Bihar on September 26, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna forecasting rain at several places and heavy rainfall at isolated locations in three districts.
According to the forecast issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre, East Champaran, Gopalganj and West Champaran may receive heavy rain at one or two places.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places in parts of north-western, south-western and south-central Bihar.
Heavy Rain Alert In Three Districts
On September 26, East Champaran, Gopalganj and West Champaran are likely to witness heavy rainfall at one or two places.
Other parts of the state may also receive rain, although rainfall intensity is expected to vary from region to region.
Several Districts Receive Heavy Rain
Bihar witnessed active monsoon conditions during the previous 24 hours.
Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded at one or two places in Sitamarhi and Khagaria. Heavy rainfall was also reported from some areas of West Champaran and districts including Madhubani, East Champaran, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Munger, Siwan, Katihar, Begusarai, Gopalganj and Nalanda.
Most parts of the state recorded light to moderate rainfall.
The rain also brought down temperatures across several areas. During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures fell by 4–6 degrees Celsius at several places.
Bhabua recorded the highest maximum temperature at 32.3 degrees Celsius, while Motihari and Valmikinagar recorded minimum temperatures of 21 degrees Celsius.
Why Is Bihar Receiving More Rain?
The continued change in weather is linked to active south-west monsoon conditions and a depression over south Odisha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Patna, the weather system is moving in a north-north-west direction, influencing rainfall activity over Bihar.
A western disturbance is also present in the middle tropospheric westerly wind field. The combined effect of these weather systems is contributing to cloudy conditions, rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in the state.
Rain Forecast Across Several Parts Of Bihar
For September 26, the IMD has forecast rain at most places in south-west Bihar, many places in central Bihar and some places in the remaining parts of the state.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are likely at isolated places in the north-western, south-western and south-central parts of Bihar.
Wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph during these weather conditions.
Temperatures May Rise After Two Days
The weather department has forecast no major change in maximum temperatures during the next two days.
After this period, maximum temperatures may increase by around 2–4 degrees Celsius.
Minimum temperatures are also expected to remain largely unchanged for the next two to three days, after which they may rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius.
IMD Issues Lightning Safety Advisory
The IMD has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning.
People caught outdoors during lightning activity should move to a secure permanent building at the earliest and avoid standing under tall trees or near electricity poles.
During periods of heavy rain, residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas should also remain alert to possible rising river levels and waterlogging.
