Patna: Flight operations at Patna Airport were severely affected by poor weather and low visibility on Saturday, resulting in cancellations, diversions and prolonged delays.
Two flights were cancelled, while four flights were diverted to Varanasi and Kolkata after aircraft could not land at Patna. The diverted flights were later brought back to Patna after weather conditions improved.
A total of 21 flights were delayed by 40 minutes to four hours, affecting more than 500 passengers. Of these, 10 were incoming flights and 11 were departures.
Two Flights Cancelled
IndiGo flight 6E 2486 from Delhi to Patna, scheduled to arrive at 11 pm, and 6E 6046 from Patna to Delhi, scheduled to depart at 10:10 pm, were cancelled.
The cancellations added to the disruption at the airport, while passengers continued to check with airline representatives for updates on flight schedules.
Mumbai-Patna Flight Diverted To Varanasi
Air India flight AI 2789 from Mumbai to Patna was diverted to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi because of low visibility.
The aircraft remained at Varanasi for around one and a half hours before weather conditions improved. It subsequently departed for Patna and reached the city about two hours behind schedule.
Delhi-Patna Flight Also Diverted
Air India Express flight IX 1510 from Delhi to Patna was also diverted to Varanasi because of poor weather conditions.
During the attempted landing at Patna, strong winds and low visibility affected the approach. The aircraft was lifted back into the air and subsequently diverted to Varanasi.
The flight later departed from Varanasi at around 4:30 pm for Patna and reached the Bihar capital after the weather conditions improved.
Two Flights Diverted To Kolkata
IndiGo flight 6E 713 from Kolkata to Patna was diverted back to Kolkata at around 11 am after it could not land at Patna because of the weather conditions.
Another IndiGo flight, 6E 2373 from Delhi to Patna, was diverted to Kolkata at around 12:45 pm due to poor weather at Patna Airport.
Both flights were later affected by the disruption in airport operations.
21 Flights Delayed By Up To Four Hours
On Saturday, 10 incoming and 11 outgoing flights were delayed, with delays ranging from 40 minutes to four hours.
Several aircraft reached Patna late, affecting their subsequent scheduled flights and causing further delays during the day.
Passengers waiting for connecting flights continued to seek information from airline representatives as the disruption affected airport operations.
Airport authorities and airlines continued informing passengers about cancellations, diversions and delays as weather conditions changed.
