Patna: Bihar Building Construction Minister Leshi Singh inspected the under-construction MLA hostel complex in Patna on September 28 and reviewed the progress, construction quality and planned facilities.
During the inspection, Singh directed engineers and the executing agency to ensure that prescribed construction standards are followed and that the project progresses within the scheduled timeline.
Officials from the Building Construction Department, including Secretary Pranav Kumar, Additional Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Chief Engineer (Electrical), Chief Engineer (Quality), Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer, were present during the inspection.
Construction Materials Sent For Laboratory Testing
The Chief Engineer (Quality) and his team collected samples of construction materials from the site and sent them to a central laboratory for testing.
The inspection also included Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) at the construction site. Tests included Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), rebar locator and rebound hammer tests to assess construction materials and structural elements.
Singh directed officials to ensure that construction materials and workmanship meet the prescribed quality standards.
She also instructed the Chief Engineer (Quality) to arrange regular inspections of other buildings being constructed in Patna.
Design Changes And Safety Systems Under Review
The minister directed officials to make certain improvements to the building design and submit the revised design at the earliest.
Officials were also instructed to ensure that fire safety, lifts, electrical systems and water supply are developed according to applicable standards.
Building Construction Department Secretary Pranav Kumar directed engineers to monitor the work regularly and submit progress reports to the department.
Officials were also asked to give priority to landscaping and garden work around the complex.
Work To Be Completed Within Scheduled Timeline
The department directed the engineers and executing agencies to increase the pace of construction so that the project is completed within the scheduled timeline.
Construction materials are also to be tested through the department’s laboratory as part of the quality-control process.
83 Suites Planned In MLA Hostel
The MLA hostel is being developed as a modern structure comprising a basement, ground floor, upper ground floor, service floor and six upper floors.
The building will have 83 suites in total, while the proposed canteen and dining area will have seating capacity for 72 people.
The first floor will have 17 suites, two lounges and two stores.
The second floor will have 16 suites, three lounges and two stores.
The third and fourth floors will each have 17 suites, two lounges and two stores.
The fifth floor will have 16 suites, three lounges and two stores.
Party Hall Planned On Sixth Floor
The sixth floor will include a party hall, store, pantry and toilets.
The building will also have three lifts, with capacities of 16, 16 and eight people respectively.
The latest inspection focused on construction quality, safety standards and planned facilities as work on the MLA hostel continues.
