Patna: Security arrangements have been strengthened across Patna ahead of a proposed march by student and youth organisations against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Police personnel have been deployed at key locations, including Gandhi Maidan, Dakbungalow Crossing, SP Verma Road and the area around Hotel Maurya.
The administration has made arrangements to maintain law and order and minimise disruption to traffic during the protest.
March Planned From Gandhi Maidan
According to the announced programme, activists from the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Revolutionary Youth Association (RYA) were scheduled to assemble near Gate No. 10 of Gandhi Maidan at 11am before marching towards Lok Bhawan.
Police are expected to monitor the procession and manage traffic at key junctions along the proposed route.
Protesters Raise Concerns Over Electoral Rolls
The organisations are protesting against the SIR process, alleging that the revision has led to the removal of a large number of voters’ names from electoral rolls.
Their demands include the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and greater transparency in the electoral roll revision process.
The allegations concerning voter deletions require verification against official electoral data and clarifications from the Election Commission of India.
CPI(ML) MLA Questions Revision Process
CPI(ML) MLA Sandeep Saurav has also raised concerns about the role of the government and the Election Commission in the revision exercise.
He has alleged that the process proceeded despite objections and questioned the removal of voters’ names, as well as the oversight exercised by local officials.
The claims require assessment against official records and the Election Commission’s response.
Administration Advises Protesters To Use Designated Site
The district administration has appealed to the protesting organisations to hold their demonstrations at the designated protest site in Gardanibagh and maintain peace.
It has warned that protests outside the designated site, traffic obstruction or other disruptions to public order could invite action under applicable rules.
The administration’s arrangements are aimed at maintaining public safety and ensuring the movement of vehicles across the city during the proposed march.
