Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a citywide lighting campaign ahead of Diwali and Chhath Puja, with plans to illuminate roads, neighbourhoods, public spaces and Ganga ghats across the city.
The civic body is carrying out repairs of faulty streetlights while installing additional lights in all municipal wards. On Sunday, the first batch of 1,800 additional streetlights was distributed among the wards as part of the campaign.
The initiative aims to improve visibility and provide better lighting for residents and devotees during the festive season, particularly at locations that are expected to see increased public movement during Chhath Puja.
Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena has directed the Electrical Division and all municipal circles to prioritise the installation work and complete it within the stipulated deadline. He has also instructed sanitation inspectors to ensure transparency and maintain the quality of the work.
47,000 Temporary Lights Planned At Ganga Ghats
The PMC is preparing special lighting arrangements at Ganga ghats and the roads leading to them to facilitate the movement of devotees during Chhath Puja.
At present, the municipal corporation area has 50 high-mast lights and approximately 2,200 streetlights installed along the Ganga ghats and their approach roads.
In addition to the existing infrastructure, the civic body plans to install around 47,000 temporary lights for the festival. These will include approximately 30,000 floodlights and metal lights, along with 17,000 tube lights.
The additional illumination is intended to improve visibility at the ghats and surrounding areas, where devotees gather to offer prayers during the festival. Lighting along approach roads is also expected to help people move more safely between residential areas, access routes and the riverbanks.
Additional Streetlights To Be Installed Across All Wards
Alongside the arrangements at the riverfront, the PMC has started installing additional streetlights across all municipal wards.
The first batch of 1,800 lights was distributed on Sunday, November 1. The installation drive is being carried out alongside repairs to faulty streetlights, which the corporation said were nearing completion.
Municipal authorities have directed the Electrical Division and officials in all municipal circles to ensure that the work is completed on time.
The focus is on improving lighting across roads, lanes, neighbourhoods and public places so that residents can move around more conveniently during the festive period.
Ponds And Parks To Receive Special Lighting
The lighting campaign will also cover ponds and parks within the Patna Municipal Corporation area.
Special arrangements are being made at prominent public spaces to ensure adequate illumination during Diwali and Chhath Puja. These locations are among the areas where residents may gather during the festive period.
The civic body is coordinating the arrangements alongside the installation of additional streetlights and repairs to existing infrastructure.
Civic Body Focuses On Timely Work And Quality
The PMC has instructed officials to complete the installation work within the specified timeframe while maintaining transparency and quality.
The campaign combines the repair of existing streetlights with the installation of temporary lighting at major gathering points and additional lights across municipal wards.
With preparations underway at Ganga ghats, approach roads, ponds, parks and neighbourhoods, the civic body aims to ensure adequate lighting throughout Patna during the Diwali and Chhath festivities.
The effectiveness of the arrangements will depend on the timely installation of the lights and the proper functioning of the lighting infrastructure during the festival.
