Patna: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has increased fees for updating Aadhaar cards, effective from October 1, 2025. The new rates will remain in place until September 30, 2028. Under this change, services that previously cost Rs50 or Rs100 will now cost Rs75 and Rs125, respectively. The authority says the revision is meant to make Aadhaar services more efficient and ensure timely updates, while also offering relief for children.
For demographic updates, such as changing your name, address, mobile number, or date of birth, the fee will now be Rs75, up from Rs50 earlier. Biometric updates, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, have risen from Rs100 to Rs125. Children between 5 and 7 years, and adolescents aged 15 to 17 years, can get one-time biometric updates for free. In addition, children aged 7 to 15 will continue to get free updates until September 30, 2026.
Updating Aadhaar online through the myAadhaar portal remains free until June 14, 2026. However, visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra will now cost Rs75, up from Rs50. Services like obtaining a colour copy of Aadhaar or an electronic KYC document will now cost Rs40 and Rs50. For home visits, the charge is Rs700 for the first person, with each additional member of the household costing Rs350, including GST.
UIDAI says these changes are intended to encourage people to keep their Aadhaar details up to date while ensuring smooth service for everyone. The next fee cycle will start on October 1, 2028, and by then, most biometric updates will cost Rs150. The revised charges aim to balance affordability for children with sustainability for the service, helping millions of Aadhaar holders across India maintain accurate and secure records.
