Patna: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna on Saturday inaugurated a Museum of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology along with a fully equipped Moot Court, expanding its infrastructure for competency-based medical education and medico-legal training.
Developed by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, the facility has been designed to provide undergraduate and postgraduate medical students with practical exposure to forensic medicine, toxicology and legal procedures through experiential learning.
Facility Designed for Practical Learning
The museum houses preserved anatomical and pathological specimens, skeletal remains, toxicological samples, medico-legal exhibits, forensic instruments, educational models and interactive displays. According to the institute, the collection will support practical teaching in forensic pathology, anthropology, injury interpretation, identification techniques and medico-legal documentation.
The adjoining Moot Court has been established to simulate courtroom proceedings, allowing students and medical residents to understand expert witness testimony, medico-legal trials and judicial processes in a structured academic setting.
Inauguration Ceremony
The facility was inaugurated by AIIMS Patna Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Raju Agarwal in the presence of Medical Superintendent Prashant Kumar Singh, senior faculty members, doctors, nursing officers and staff.
Addressing the gathering, Agarwal said the museum represents an important step in strengthening academic excellence at the institute. He described it as a centre for experiential learning where future doctors can develop scientific reasoning, ethical understanding and investigative skills alongside theoretical knowledge.
Singh congratulated the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for the initiative and said the new facility would enrich medical education while encouraging interdisciplinary learning, research and scientific inquiry.
Department Highlights Academic Vision
Amit Patil, Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, said the museum had been developed to create an immersive learning environment that helps students connect classroom concepts with real-life medico-legal investigations.
The department said the integration of the forensic museum with the Moot Court makes AIIMS Patna among the few premier medical institutions in the country to offer a comprehensive training ecosystem combining forensic science with medico-legal practice.
Digital Features and Academic Participation
Toshal Wankhede, Associate Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, said the museum includes QR code-enabled displays for poisons and weapons, allowing students to access scientific, toxicological and medico-legal information digitally.
The inauguration was attended by heads of several departments, faculty members, resident doctors, nursing officers, technical staff, administrative officials and other employees of AIIMS Patna.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Chaitanya Mittal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
Regional Centre for Forensic Education
According to AIIMS Patna, the newly established museum and Moot Court are expected to serve as a regional centre for forensic education, research and skill development, supporting the institute’s efforts to strengthen medical education and medico-legal training in eastern India.
