Patna: The Department of Orthopaedics at AIIMS Patna organised a public awareness programme on Wednesday to mark National Joint Replacement Day, focusing on joint health, prevention and treatment options for people with hip and knee problems.
The programme aimed to help patients and members of the public understand when medical evaluation is required, when joint replacement may be considered and what recovery involves.
Focus On Hip And Knee Health
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof Dr Sudeep Kumar, Unit Head and In-charge of Joint Replacement Services in the Department of Orthopaedics. Prof Dr Anup Kumar, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, also attended the event.
Experts delivered presentations on common hip and knee conditions and discussed measures for maintaining joint health.
The sessions covered the symptoms that may require medical attention, indications for joint replacement, precautions before and after surgery and the expected outcomes of treatment.

Patients Share Their Experiences
Patients who had undergone joint replacement surgery at AIIMS Patna also participated in the programme and shared their experiences.
They spoke about their symptoms before surgery, the treatment process, recovery and changes in mobility and quality of life after the procedure.
According to AIIMS Patna, the patient experiences helped the audience understand the possible benefits and recovery process associated with joint replacement surgery.
Public Raises Questions On Joint Pain And Recovery
The programme included an interactive session during which members of the public raised questions about joint pain, arthritis, surgery, rehabilitation and post-operative precautions.
Orthopaedic specialists responded to the queries and stressed the importance of seeking medical advice when persistent pain, stiffness or difficulty in walking begins to affect routine activities.
Joint Replacement Involves More Than Surgery
The programme highlighted that joint replacement involves several stages beyond the surgical procedure, including appropriate patient selection, pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, rehabilitation and long-term care.
The department advised people experiencing persistent joint-related problems to consult qualified orthopaedic specialists rather than continuing to live with disabling symptoms without medical evaluation.
AIIMS Patna’s Focus On Public Awareness
The awareness programme was part of AIIMS Patna’s efforts to improve public understanding of modern orthopaedic treatment and available joint replacement services.
The institute said such programmes can help patients make informed decisions about treatment while encouraging timely consultation and appropriate rehabilitation.
