Patna: An outsourced junior administrative officer at AIIMS Patna has been arrested after an internal inquiry by the institute substantiated allegations of sexual harassment made by a woman employee and her minor daughter.
The accused, identified as Ashwini Kumar Singh, was taken into custody by Phulwarisharif police after an FIR was registered under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other serious charges related to sexual harassment and molestation.
According to police, the case was initiated following a complaint forwarded by the AIIMS administration along with the findings of a high-level internal inquiry committee.
Allegations Span Nearly Two Years
The woman alleged that she first came into contact with Singh around two years ago while dealing with administrative procedures during treatment and recovery following a major surgery at AIIMS Patna.
According to her complaint, Singh allegedly used that acquaintance to repeatedly harass and molest her over an extended period.
The woman further alleged that whenever she resisted his advances, she was subjected to mental harassment and threatened with the loss of her job.
She claimed she remained silent for a prolonged period due to fears of social stigma and concerns about her employment.
The complaint took a more serious turn when she allegedly discovered that the accused had also engaged in inappropriate behaviour towards her minor daughter and had attempted to sexually assault her.
It was after these allegations emerged that the woman decided to formally approach the authorities.
Internal AIIMS Inquiry Ordered
The woman submitted a written complaint to AIIMS authorities on February 21, 2026.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the institute constituted a six-member internal inquiry committee to examine the claims.
According to officials, the committee reviewed electronic records, including WhatsApp conversations and other technical evidence, as part of its investigation.
The inquiry reportedly found sufficient evidence supporting the allegations made by the woman and her daughter.
Following the inquiry, AIIMS administration forwarded the findings to the police and sought legal action against the accused.
Police Register POCSO Case
A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at Phulwarisharif police station by Rajkumar Jalan, a senior administrative officer at AIIMS Patna, along with the inquiry report.
Phulwarisharif Station House Officer Mohammad Ghulam Shahbaz Alam said a case had been registered under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections based on the findings of the internal investigation.
Police arrested Singh shortly after the FIR was registered.
Officials said further legal proceedings are underway and the accused is being produced before the court for judicial remand.
The investigation remains ongoing.
