Patna: Patna’s AIIMS, in collaboration with the Bihar & Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association, successfully organised a two-day Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) Workshop on December 6 and 7. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Brig. (Dr.) Raju Agarwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, along with national experts Dr. P. S. Bhandari from New Delhi, Dr. Rajiv Agarwal from Lucknow, Dr. Venkata Yamini from Hyderabad, and Dr. Veena Kumari Singh, Head of Department and Vice-President of the Bihar–Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association.
During the workshop, three live rhinoplasty surgeries were performed on women patients. Two of the patients had nasal deformities caused by childhood trauma, while the third had a broad and thick nose. The surgeries were demonstrated by Dr. Bhandari and Dr. Rajiv Agarwal, who also explained the techniques in detail and delivered lectures on various aspects of nose surgery. A national webinar was also held, allowing plastic surgeons from across India to participate online and interact with the experts.
The workshop was organised under the leadership of Dr. Veena Kumari Singh with strong support from her team, including Dr. Ansarul Haq, Dr. Sarsij Sharma, Dr. Vishwadeep, Dr. Kuldeep, and the nursing and O.T. staff. The anaesthesia team — Dr. Chandni, Dr. Nishant, and Dr. Abhyuday — also contributed significantly. Senior plastic surgeons from Patna, such as Dr. B. K. Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Rampukar, Dr. Onkar, Dr. Anurag, and Dr. Shahnawaz, along with resident doctors, actively participated in the workshop, making it a rich learning experience.
The event highlighted the importance of practical training and knowledge sharing in plastic surgery. By combining live demonstrations, lectures, and online participation, the workshop provided a platform for surgeons to learn new techniques, exchange ideas, and improve patient care. Such initiatives aim to strengthen the standard of plastic surgery in Bihar and neighbouring states, benefiting both medical professionals and patients.
