Patna: As Bihar enters election mode, political realignments are gathering pace. In one of the first major shifts since the Election Commission announced the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad is poised to rejoin the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a brief stint with the Congress.
Sources close to Nishad said he has been in regular contact with senior BJP leaders and may formally return to the party within days. He was seen visiting the BJP’s state headquarters in Patna, sparking speculation that his re-induction could happen soon.
Although Nishad has yet to make a public statement, party insiders suggest he could contest from a Muzaffarpur district assembly seat on a BJP ticket. Nishad, 59, previously served as a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Muzaffarpur, winning in both 2014 and 2019.
BJP state spokesperson Neeraj Kumar hinted at Nishad’s possible return but stopped short of confirming it. “He has served as an MP from our party. If he wishes to return, we will definitely welcome him,” he said.
Kumar added that the BJP continues to attract leaders who align with its ideology. “We respect anyone who identifies with our policies and principles. If Ajay Nishad joins us without conditions, he will be warmly welcomed,” he said.
Ajay Nishad’s political lineage traces back to his father, Captain Jayanarayan Nishad, a four-time MP and former Union minister from Muzaffarpur. The younger Nishad switched to the Congress earlier this year after being denied a BJP ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections—a move that reportedly left him disillusioned.
Now, just months later, he appears set to “return home” to the party that launched his political career, as BJP leaders intensify efforts to consolidate their ranks before the high-stakes Bihar Assembly polls.
