Patna: India’s union home minister Amit Shah is set to begin a three-day visit to Bihar’s Seemanchal region from February 25, in a tour officials describe as strategically significant rather than ceremonial. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening border security, curbing illegal infiltration and improving administrative coordination across sensitive frontier districts.
The programme will start with Shah’s arrival in Purnia on the evening of February 25, after which he will travel to Kishanganj for a detailed security review. A meeting scheduled at the district collectorate between 5pm and 7pm will assess the effectiveness of existing security mechanisms, with senior officials presenting updates on surveillance and coordination measures. Shah is expected to stay overnight in Kishanganj following the session.
On 26 February, the home minister will visit the Letti border outpost in Araria, where he will interact with security personnel and hold discussions with district magistrates and police chiefs on challenges related to the India Nepal border. Officials said infiltration control and improved administrative cooperation will be central themes of the deliberations, alongside efforts to enhance operational readiness.
A key element of the visit will be Shah’s participation in the Vibrant Village Programme-2, aimed at strengthening infrastructure in border settlements and discouraging migration from remote frontier areas. The initiative seeks to position border villages as critical components of the security framework while improving living standards for residents. Shah has previously said that attempts to leverage illegal migration for political gain would not be tolerated, signalling the government’s emphasis on enforcement and monitoring.
The tour will conclude on February 27 with a high-level review meeting in Purnia, where field reports from the preceding days will be analysed and future strategies finalised. Following the meeting, Shah will depart for New Delhi. Security agencies have heightened surveillance across the region ahead of the visit, with additional deployments and monitoring measures in place at key locations.
