Patna: Bihar is set for a significant boost in rail connectivity as two Amrit Bharat Express trains equipped with modern facilities are scheduled to begin operations from September 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the services, flagging off the Jogbani–Erode and Saharsa–Chheharta (Amritsar) routes.
The Jogbani–Erode Amrit Bharat Express will traverse a vast stretch of the country, covering Purnia, Katihar, Barauni, Hajipur, Patliputra, Prayagraj, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Vijayawada and Perambur before reaching its southern destination. The inaugural special train (06602) will depart Jogbani at 3.30pm on Monday and reach Erode on September 18 at 7.20am.
The Saharsa–Chheharta Amrit Bharat Express, meanwhile, will enhance links from Bihar to north India. It will run via Supaul, Jhanjharpur, Sitamarhi, Raxaul, Narkatiaganj, and Gorakhpur before reaching Punjab. The inaugural special (05531) will leave Saharsa at 3.30pm on Monday and reach Chheharta on September 17 at 2am.
Railway officials said the new trains are designed with passenger comfort and convenience in mind, with modern interiors, improved seating, and faster services. The initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to expand long-distance rail connectivity and reduce travel time between distant regions.
Both trains are expected to provide new opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, linking Bihar more closely with the south and north of India.
