Bhagalpur: A shocking case has come to light in Bhagalpur where a Pakistani woman, Imrana Khanam, has been living for years without a valid visa. She built a house in Bhikhanpur Tank Lane, got a voter ID card, and even became a government school teacher. The case has raised serious questions about how she managed to stay undetected for so long.
DSP Headquarters-2 Muhammad Ayub, who was given charge of the investigation, has completed the police inquiry. He has now sought detailed information from the education department about how Imrana was hired as a teacher and from which recruitment process she got the job. He has also asked the District Deputy Election Officer to clarify how her voter ID card was made. Once these reports come in, DSP Ayub will submit his final report to the SSP for further action.
Police records reveal that in 2021, the Home Special Department had already confirmed that Imrana Khanam was a Pakistani citizen. At that time, Kajrali police station in-charge Navnish Kumar had gone to her in-laws’ house in Simaria after the department ordered an investigation. During the inquiry, neighbours told police that after her husband’s death, Imrana had shifted permanently to Bhikhanpur and built a house there. A verification drive was then carried out at Urdu Middle School, Barhpura, where she was found working as a teacher under the name Bibi Imrana Khatoon.
After confirming her identity, the Kajrali and Ishakchak police submitted a report to the SSP stating that Imrana Khanam and Bibi Imrana Khatoon were the same person. Since then, the Block Level Officer (BLO) has recommended her removal from the voter list. The latest round of investigation is expected to determine what legal action will be taken next.
