Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna held its convocation ceremony for the class of 2025 at Adhiveshan Bhawan on Thursday, in a celebration that blended tradition with a vision for the future of Indian design.
Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, served as chief guest and awarded degrees to graduating students. The event was also attended by Bihar chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit, NIFT director general Tanu Kashyap, alumni, faculty and families.

The ceremony began with an academic procession, the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and cultural renditions by the NIFT choir. Director Col. Rahul Sharma presented the annual academic report, noting milestones in research, industry partnerships and student achievements.
Speakers including Amrit, Kashyap and alumnus Sanjay Shukla highlighted NIFT Patna’s contribution to fostering creativity, design thinking and professional excellence. Gaurav Mishra, director at NIFT headquarters, administered the NIFT pledge, urging graduates to uphold ethics and drive innovation.

The highlight came as Margherita conferred degrees and lauded students’ achievements. In his address, he stressed the significance of India’s handloom and textile legacy in shaping sustainable futures for fashion. “Our rich heritage is not only about preserving traditions, but also about leading the global conversation on sustainable design,” he said.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, the national anthem, and a group photograph — marking a milestone for the 2025 graduates and reaffirming NIFT Patna’s standing as a premier institute in fashion education.
