West Champaran: Apurva Verma, a native of Narkatiaganj in West Champaran district, has secured the 42nd rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, earning a place in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Her achievement has sparked celebrations across the town and surrounding areas, with residents describing it as a proud moment for the region.
Verma had previously cleared the UPSC examination in 2022 and was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS). She is currently serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Delhi. Despite already holding a prestigious position, she remained determined to pursue her goal of becoming an IAS officer. Balancing the demands of her job with intensive preparation, she continued studying and eventually secured the 42nd rank in the latest examination.
Coming from an academically oriented family, Verma grew up in an environment that valued education and discipline. She is the granddaughter of the late educationist Ripusudan Prasad Verma, who served as principal of TP Verma College. Her father, Ajit Kumar Verma, is an engineer at Bokaro Steel Plant, while her mother, Abha Verma, is a homemaker. Family members say this strong educational foundation played a key role in shaping her ambitions.
Verma has been academically accomplished since her early years. She completed her schooling in Bokaro and studied at Delhi Public School, Bokaro, for her intermediate education. She later earned an engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), after which she began preparing for the civil services examination.
Family members said Verma had always been determined to secure a higher rank and eventually join the IAS. Her uncles, Manjeet Verma and Ranjeet Verma, recalled that whenever she visited her village, she spent most of her time studying. According to them, her persistence and disciplined preparation ultimately helped her achieve the milestone.
News of her success quickly spread across Narkatiaganj and nearby areas, triggering celebrations among residents and relatives. Family members said the achievement not only honours the family but also fulfils the aspirations of her late grandfather, who had long championed the value of education.
Relatives, including Sangeeta Verma and Ranjana Verma, described the accomplishment as a moment of immense pride. They said the success of daughters strengthens the dignity of families and inspires young women to pursue their ambitions. Verma’s journey, they added, stands as a powerful example for civil service aspirants across the country.
