Patna: Former Jehanabad MP Arun Kumar has joined Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) ahead of the 2025 assembly elections, announcing his return to state politics alongside his son, Rituraj.
Arun Kumar, a prominent Bhumihar leader, joined the party on Saturday in the presence of senior JDU figures, including Union Minister Lallan Singh, party executive president Sanjay Jha, state president Umesh Kushwaha, and ministers Vijay Chaudhary and Ashok Chaudhary. His son, Rituraj, is expected to contest the Ghosi assembly seat in Jehanabad.
Arun Kumar previously fought alongside Nitish Kumar against the Lalu Prasad Yadav–Rabri Devi government, but the two later went their separate ways. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 from Jehanabad on Upendra Kushwaha’s party ticket, before parting ways with the party following its merger with the JD(U). Arun Singh also had a brief stint with Chirag Paswan’s party.
