Arwal: A Bihar court has taken serious action against a senior police officer and five other personnel after they repeatedly failed to appear before the court in a case involving allegations of police brutality against women.
The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Manish Kumar Pandey, in Arwal district, issued a non-bailable warrant against Sub-Divisional Police Superintendent (SDPO) Kriti Kamal and five other policemen. The action follows earlier summons and bailable warrants issued under non-bailable sections, which the accused officers disregarded.
Complaint Alleges Forced Entry and Assault on Women
Advocate Anil Kumar Sharma, representing the complainant Tanisha Singh of Karva Hankar village under Karpi police station, said the case stems from a police raid during which officers allegedly forced their way into a home, assaulted women, and behaved inappropriately.
The complaint details claims of intimidation, physical assault, and harassment during the police operation—accusations that the court has taken note of after repeated non-compliance by the accused officers.
Court Tightens Grip After Repeated Absence
Despite earlier orders requiring their appearance, none of the accused officers attended the hearings. On 25 November, the court escalated the matter by issuing a non-bailable warrant, directing the Superintendent of Police to ensure compliance.
A copy of the order was forwarded to the SP for immediate action. However, according to the plaintiff’s lawyer, no concrete steps have been taken so far, raising concerns about accountability and enforcement within the local police hierarchy.
Growing Pressure for Action
With the issuance of a non-bailable warrant, pressure is mounting on district police authorities to act. The case has drawn attention in Arwal for its implications on police conduct, women’s safety, and judicial compliance.
