Gaya: The Bihar chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) organised a continuing medical education (CME) session in Gaya, bringing together surgeons and specialists to discuss advances in clinical practice.
The session featured expert talks on laparoscopic surgery, urological disorders and gastrointestinal care, with around 30 surgeons in attendance.
Focus On Surgical Advancements
Sanjay Kumar of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) delivered a presentation on the laparoscopic management of choledochal cysts, highlighting minimally invasive approaches in complex surgical cases.
The session was chaired by senior surgeons including S.N. Singh and Anil Singh.
Changing Trends In Urology
Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, a urologist based in Patna, spoke on lower urinary tract symptoms in ageing men, outlining changing clinical approaches and management strategies.
The session was chaired by Binod Kumar and Shailendra, both practitioners from Gaya.
Gastroenterology Insights
Rahul Kumar, assistant professor of gastro medicine at IGIMS, discussed acid suppression therapy in surgical patients, focusing on emerging treatment protocols and clinical outcomes.
The session was chaired by Ashok Kumar Sinha and Ratan Kumar.
Expanding Medical Education
Manish Mandal, secretary of the ASI Bihar chapter, said the organisation has been conducting at least two CME programmes each month across districts since December 2025.
He said the initiative aims to strengthen continuous learning among surgeons and improve patient care standards across the state.
Ashok Kumar Sinha, chairman of the academic council of the ASI Bihar chapter, said efforts are underway to organise refresher courses in every medical college in Bihar, with plans to hold one soon at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Gaya.

The event was inaugurated by S.N. Singh, who welcomed the delegates, while Ashish Prasad delivered the vote of thanks.
Organisers said the CME reflects ongoing efforts to promote knowledge-sharing and keep medical professionals updated on evolving surgical practices.
