Patna: The path is now clear for the expansion of Patna’s busiest bus terminal, Bairiya Bus Stand, after the state government completed the acquisition of five acres of land last month. The process, which began around a year and a half ago, involved compensation of Rs 59 crore.
The formal transfer of the land to the development department is expected soon. Once completed, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) will begin upgrading the terminal’s infrastructure.
Expanding capacity and easing congestion
Currently spread over 25.3 acres, Bairiya Bus Stand handles roughly 1,100 buses daily along nearly three dozen routes within and beyond the state, serving more than 50,000 passengers. With the additional five acres, the terminal’s area will increase to 30.3 acres, creating space for more bus parking and reducing congestion within the terminal.
District officials have requested the appointment of an officer to oversee the measurement and handover of the acquired land to the development department, a process expected to conclude by the end of the month.
Passenger facilities to be upgraded
The expansion will also allow improvements to passenger amenities, including waiting areas, restrooms, drinking water, ticket counters, parking, and internal roads. BUIDCO will prioritise upgrading the terminal’s internal layout, parking system, and overall passenger experience, making travel safer and more organised.
A boost for Patna’s transport infrastructure
The expansion of Bairiya Bus Stand represents a significant step in strengthening Patna’s public transport network. With rising passenger numbers and urban growth, the project aims to ensure a more efficient and comfortable travel environment, supporting the city’s long-term transport planning.
