Kishanganj: Residents of Kishanganj in Bihar were jolted awake on Friday morning after a sudden earthquake shook the district, sending people rushing out of their homes. The tremor, which struck around 10 a.m., originated near Narsingdi, 42 km from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and registered a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale.
Witnesses described the shaking as sudden and intense. “Everything started moving — fans, doors, even kitchen utensils,” said one resident. The cold early morning meant many were still asleep when the quake hit, amplifying the sense of alarm.
Although the tremor lasted only a few seconds, it left a significant impression on residents, who reported a brief moment of fear before realising no further shaking occurred.
Authorities have confirmed that no damage or casualties have been reported so far. Local administration officials continue to monitor the situation to ensure public safety.
