Patna: The Bankipur Head Post Office in Patna will remain closed for five days, from March 5 to March 10, as underground tunnel construction for the Patna Metro gathers pace in the PMCH–Gandhi Maidan area. Officials said the temporary suspension of services is a precautionary step to ensure public safety during a critical phase of the infrastructure project.
The decision was taken following directions from the district administration and senior officials of the postal department. Authorities said that with heavy machinery and excavation work underway in the vicinity, restricting access to the building was necessary to avoid any potential risks to staff and visitors.
To minimise disruption, the department has announced alternative arrangements for customers. Savings bank and other essential financial services previously handled by the Bankipur Head Post Office will be available at the Patna University Post Office for the duration of the closure.
Mail processing and delivery operations linked to Bankipur will meanwhile be managed by the Mahendru Sub Post Office. Residents have been advised to plan their visits accordingly and use the designated centres for postal and banking needs during the five-day period.
Officials stressed that essential postal services will continue without interruption despite the temporary shutdown. The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Patna Division, said the metro project represents a major step in the city’s urban transformation, and that coordination between departments is aimed at balancing development work with public convenience and safety.
