Patna: The Bankipur Head Post Office will remain closed for four days from February 12 to 15 after authorities ordered a temporary shutdown due to safety concerns linked to ongoing underground metro tunnel construction between PMCH and Gandhi Maidan.
The decision was taken following directions from the district administration and senior officials of the postal department, who said construction of the metro corridor requires strict safety measures. With heavy excavation and tunnelling work underway near the premises, officials deemed it necessary to suspend operations as a precaution.
To ensure residents continue to receive essential services, the department has introduced temporary alternatives. Savings bank transactions and related financial services usually handled at the Bankipur office will be shifted to the Patna University Post Office between February 12 and 14. Meanwhile, all mail-related services will operate from the Mahendru Sub Post Office during the closure period.
Officials said the move prioritises the safety of both staff and the public while allowing the metro project to proceed without risk. They added that arrangements have been made to minimise inconvenience and maintain the smooth functioning of postal operations across the city.
Citizens have been advised to plan their visits accordingly and use nearby post offices for urgent needs. The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Patna Division, confirmed that normal operations at the Bankipur Head Post Office will resume from February 16.
