Patna: Two policemen have been arrested in Barh, Patna, after allegedly stealing a battery from a seized motorcycle stored at the local police station and attempting to destroy evidence. The accused, Home Guard constable Swami Vivekananda and vehicle driver constable Harishankar Singh, were on duty at the time of the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
According to police reports, the theft took place around 1:30 am. The officers are alleged to have removed three batteries from a seized bike kept on the station premises. They then reportedly cut the CCTV wiring, broke the LCD screen, and took the television remote and mouse in an effort to conceal their actions.
The theft was uncovered during an investigation led by SI Azhar Ansari, who reviewed the station’s CCTV footage. Initially, attempts were made to suppress the case, with the accused being confined to a special room rather than the lock-up. Following intervention by senior officials, both were remanded to jail on Tuesday evening.
Police are currently cross-checking the stolen batteries against the Malkhana stock register. An FIR has been registered under number 68/25 at the Barh police station.
This incident follows previous security lapses at the station. Earlier, ten seized motorcycles were reported stolen, prompting a case against unknown individuals, though the culprits were never identified. The repeated incidents have prompted questions about the station’s security measures and alleged negligence by officials.
