Sabour: A two-day seminar on “Digital Branding of GI Products in Bihar,” sponsored by Bameti, Patna, began on September 18, 2025, at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, drawing farmers, extension workers, researchers, and branding experts.
The event focused on harnessing digital tools to promote Bihar’s Geographical Indication (GI) products, including Mithila Makhana, Shahi Litchi, Magahi Paan, and Jardalu Mango. These products are recognised for their unique geographical origins and traditional production methods but face hurdles in visibility and wider marketing.
Sessions covered social media marketing, e-commerce strategies, and content creation to strengthen digital presence. Experts discussed the challenges of maintaining authenticity, building trust, and connecting with global markets. Case studies such as Kashmiri Pashmina illustrated how digital branding has elevated traditional products to international recognition.
Honorary Vice Chancellor of BAU, Dr D.R. Singh, said: “Digital branding is the key to unlocking the global potential of Bihar’s GI products. Through innovation, we aim to increase the visibility of our local treasures, expose them to the international market, and ensure the economic empowerment of our rural communities.”
Dr Anil Kumar Singh, Director of Research at BAU, chaired the seminar and emphasised research-driven strategies in branding: “By combining the wisdom of our traditional artisans with cutting-edge digital marketing techniques, we aim to create a sustainable ecosystem that will ensure the long-term success of Bihar’s GI products.”
Other speakers included Dr Feza Ahmed, Director of Seeds and Farms; Dr M.K. Sinha, Assistant Dean-cum-Principal; Dr Abhay Mankar, Deputy Director Training; and Ranjit Pratap Pandit, Deputy Director (Horticulture), Bameti. The welcome address was given by Dr Aditya Sinha, Organising Secretary, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Anil Kumar of BPSAC, Purnia.
The seminar concluded with agreement on the urgent need to leverage digital branding to link Bihar’s traditional industries with global markets.
