Patna: The Bihar government has announced strict law-and-order measures for Durga Puja, including mandatory licensing of idol installations, intensified social media monitoring, and heavy police deployment across districts.
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit on Thursday set the framework for ensuring peaceful and safe festivities. District magistrates, superintendents of police, divisional commissioners, IGs, DIGs, and railway police officials joined via video conferencing to review preparations.
Key directives include crowd control, fire and ambulance readiness, and deployment of maximum surveillance cameras at puja pandals. Every pandal will have a police team led by the local station chief, while DJ sound systems will be strictly regulated to avoid conflicts. Police forces will also be equipped with body protectors, helmets, and night vision devices.
Last year, around 16,000 idols were installed statewide. This year, organisers must secure licenses before setting up idols, and sites will undergo pre-inspection to prevent communal tension. Videography will be compulsory during idol immersion, with licensed groups held responsible for maintaining order.
Peace committee meetings are to be organised in every district with the inclusion of young members to promote harmony. Bordering districts with Nepal have been asked to remain extra vigilant following recent disturbances across the border.
The Chief Secretary stressed that vigilance, sensitivity, and coordination among administrative and police officials would be crucial in ensuring a safe and grand Durga Puja this year.
