Patna: Bihar has announced a major expansion of its justice system with the creation of 100 fast-track courts aimed at speeding up the disposal of long-pending cases. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary said the move is essential, as the state’s courts are burdened with more than 1.8 million pending matters. He added that the new courts will help ensure quicker hearings and give much-needed attention to sensitive cases.
Under the plan, Patna will get eight fast-track courts, while Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur will each receive four. Several districts, including Nalanda, Rohtas, Saran, Begusarai, Vaishali, East Champaran, Samastipur and Madhubani, will get three courts each. Two courts each will come up in a long list of districts such as West Champaran, Saharsa, Purnia, Munger, Nawada, Araria, Supaul, Katihar and many others. Navgachhia and Bagaha sub-divisions will receive one fast-track court each.
To support this large-scale expansion, the government plans to recruit around 900 personnel across eight categories, including clerks, stenographers, data entry operators, drivers and peons. Chaudhary said that priority cases will be identified jointly by district magistrates and senior police officials to ensure timely hearings. He stressed that strengthening manpower is vital for improving efficiency across all districts.
Alongside these courts, the government will soon operationalise 79 dedicated Arms Act courts. Chaudhary said faster disposal of Arms Act cases is necessary to improve law and order in Bihar. He added that the state is committed to delivering quicker, more dependable justice for all citizens.
