Patna: Patna is preparing to enter a new era of urban transit as the Patna Metro project nears operational readiness. Officials announced that the metro will begin services at five stations, from ISBT to Malahi Pakadi, by the third week of January, following the completion of testing, signalling, and safety assessments.
Construction at Malahi Pakadi station is almost complete, while work continues at Khemnichak, a key connecting station. The metro promises to ease the city’s traffic congestion, offering faster, more reliable transport across the eastern corridor. A 9.35-kilometre underground section from Patna Junction to Rukunpura and Mithapur is set to become a hallmark of the network. Rajendra Nagar station, the city’s deepest at 21 meters, will allow passengers to transfer directly to the Rajendra Nagar Railway Terminal, creating Patna’s first integrated rail-metro hub.
Patna Junction Metro Station will serve as a central interchange between the Red and Blue lines, streamlining travel from Danapur to Khemnichak and New ISBT to Patna Junction. A technical team from Delhi Metro is scheduled to inspect three underground stations—Rajendra Nagar, Moinul Haq, and Patna Junction—on January 15, a crucial step before final approval.
Beyond its practical benefits, the Patna Metro represents a modernisation of the city’s urban infrastructure, promising to reshape mobility and connectivity in the capital.
