Patna: The Bihar transport department has taken strict action against people who repeatedly break traffic rules, suspending 4,488 driving licences and cancelling 497 licences across the state. The move is part of a large road safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents and improving discipline on the roads. Officials said the decision was necessary as repeated violations were putting the lives of both drivers and pedestrians at risk.
According to the department, drivers whose licences have been suspended have been given a final chance to correct their behaviour. If they are caught breaking traffic rules again, their licences will be permanently cancelled. Authorities clearly stated that there will be no relaxation for repeat offenders, as road safety is a serious matter and cannot be ignored any longer.
The transport department has identified speeding, drunk driving, riding or driving without a helmet or seat belt, driving in the wrong direction and using mobile phones while driving as major offences. For a first violation, the licence may be suspended, but if the same driver repeats the offence, strict action will follow. Officials said these rules are meant to encourage responsible driving habits among the public.
Drivers whose licences have already been cancelled will not get a new licence easily. They will have to apply again from the beginning, submit all required documents and pass a fresh driving test. The department is using technology such as e-challans and digital records to track offenders and take automatic action against repeat violations. Officials have said this campaign will be intensified in the coming days and appealed to people to follow traffic rules for their own safety and the safety of others.
