Patna: A joint operation by Bihar and Uttar Pradesh police forces led to the killing of wanted gangster W Yadav in a police encounter in Simbhavali, Hapur district, on Monday. W Yadav, also known as Suraj Yadav, was a resident of Sahebpur Kamal in Begusarai and faced over two dozen serious criminal charges, including murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and arms offences.
W Yadav, who had instilled fear across Begusarai and surrounding areas, opened fire on the police during a vehicle-checking drive, prompting retaliatory action. He was critically injured in the exchange and later died during treatment at a nearby hospital. One of his accomplices managed to flee.
The operation involved personnel from Bihar’s Special Task Force (STF), Begusarai District Police, Uttar Pradesh STF and Simbhavali Police. The Bihar Police had been tracking W Yadav across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana based on intelligence that he was planning a major criminal act in the Hapur region.
During the encounter, one STF jawan from Uttar Pradesh and one from Begusarai Police were injured. Both are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Police recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition from the scene, including one 9 mm carbine, one 7.65 mm pistol, one country-made pistol, 13 live 9 mm cartridges, nine 7.65 mm cartridges, nine .32 bore cartridges, one .315 mm cartridge, two carbine magazines, two 7.65 mm magazines, four 9 mm carbine shells, six 7.65 mm shells, one .315 mm shell, a stolen bike and Rs 2,100 in cash.
W Yadav was the main accused in several high-profile crimes in Begusarai. In May, he and his gang allegedly kidnapped and murdered Vikas Kumar, block president of the HAM party in Sahebpur Kamal. He was also accused of killing Mahendra Yadav of Gyanatola and threatening to kill Rupesh Kumar, a kiln owner, for extortion of Rs 2 lakh.
